It’s been up and down lately – healthwise, but no matter how lousy I feel stuff won’t stop happening.
Take Christy Clark for instance [insert joke here].
Is there anything Clark won’t stick her nose in? No matter how stupid the nose’s ideas are?
Last week was the perfect example of Clark
She proposed, in the space of four hours, not one but two foolish and unworkable schemes for Senate ‘renewal’.
Freezing Ontario and Quebec’s Senate seats? There’s a non-starter that might earn some points with the knuckle draggers, but will have any British Columbian with half a brain crying out ‘We aren’t that silly, Christy’.
Clark also made headlines with a call to throw the book at the secret group of professional rioters who set Vancouver ablaze. It mattered not that the notion of a group of professional provocateurs secretly organizing the riot has been demonstrated to be as real as Clark’s concern for BC’s families.
She then leaked the news of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s appointment of Gordon Campbell to a plum patronage position in London. Harper’s office was forced to make one of those lame non-denial denials.
Okay, that was a bit of fun.
And finally there was her own patronage appointment of campaign operative Pamela Martin. It was Clark’s only announcement with any consequence since it comes with a $130,000 a year price tag.
Add it all up and you get a week of inanity, courtesy of our Premier. It’s as if Clark thinks she is still a shock jock, paid to make controversy not policy.
For a long while I’ve had this nagging déjà vu feeling about Christy Clark. It’s the “we’ve seen this movie before” feeling coupled with the “and it didn’t end well” feeling.
So I roam my painful brain. Where does the feeling come from?
Wait, wait… twenty years ago, another Premier, beloved by the media for their propensity to have a view on everything coupled with the desire to tell us about it – no matter how ridiculous or downright stupid.
Bill Vander Zalm.
That’s it! Christy Clark is this generation’s Vander Zalm. Is this another case of ‘history repeats itself as a joke’?
Please sir, make it stop.
