Lies, more lies and Christy’s big new lie

So the “independent” panel‘s report is out on the HST.  And surprise, we find out the lies are bigger than ever and the benefits more hypothetical than credible.

I’m shocked.

First of all, the new lies…

Then:  “It’s revenue neutral”.

Now:  “The HST generates more revenue than the PST/GST”.

Then:  “The new B.C. HST credit reduces the impact of the HST for lower income British Columbians.  This chart shows the estimated amount sample households pay under both the PST and HST and how the B.C. HST credit and new income tax credits impact their bottom line”

Now:  All the numbers are lies.  The average family pays more, lots more.

And then there are the same old lies:  The economy will grow as a reasult of HST by 2020.  Someday, somewhere they assume some business will pass through 90% of the HST benefit to consumers.

Still, the question for the Christy Clark government is:  How is a 2 billion tax increase for families, a tax increase that hits almost every family harder than your government claimed, a tax increase that will get bigger every year,  good for families?

That’s the biggest lie of all.

Why so shocked? Like we never been lied to before. If it’s not one it’s the other! We’ll pay one way or the other. Ndp at least had a good idea about joining all the parties on the most common denominator.

  2. NA says:

I wonder how Levy and Good will spin this. Maybe John Less will fax them some talking points.

  3. PG says:

I would hope that the NDP would produce another Christy Crunch commercial to jump on this gift of misleading the public. BC voters don’t have much sympathy on a BC Liberal party that outright lies to them so many times.

I am retired and my wife works part time. We definitely are not rich. Other than camping and fishing, my major recreational activity is golf (3 to 4 times a week). Of the eight courses I frequent, not one has dropped their price and 6 have increased prices! Two have stayed the same but one other that used to charge $20.00 (tax inclusive) is still $20.00 but the surprise kicker is we have an added $2.40 HST. Just did a calculation and have determined the added 7% is me costing $300.00 a year on this activity alone. This week I had a tune up and new tires installed on my 8 year old car. The additional 7% on the service portion of the bill was $41.22. Our furnace started blowing cold air last month because of a blocked tube. It needed no parts, just service. The added service tax is $11.20. HST on my weekly grocery bill is costing about $3.00 a week (natcho chips, etc) or $150.00 a year. The above mentioned tax increases for HST total more than $500.00. We have not been out for a bite to eat or a beer yet, so we can add that on. What amazed me are the increases I missed. My wife and I have self directed RRSP accounts. We are each automatically charged a fee of $135.00 plus tax. HST added $18.90 a year. Automatic payment of bills may be something many will never look at. Oh well, the bill was $67.82 last month but now it is $69.41, an increase of $1.59 or $19.08 yearly??? I have not added up all our bills but I will state that our older family of two with income of about $45,000 will pay close to $1000.00 more per year because of the HST. One other thing! Anyone who smokes is spending anywhere from $150 to $200 more a year. Poorer people in our society may be smokers??

Just read the Sun and Province online. Did I miss the HST report story??? Outside of Smyth and Palmer, didn’t they report on the BS contained in the report?

  6. Keith Simpson says:

I am so sick of the corruption and crookedness in B.C. The government must think we are stupid to believe the H.S.T. ” Is good for B.C.” What a bunch of crap! I am so sick of being gouged everytime I buy food, gas, etc. And to top it all off, prices are going up and up and wages are going down. Pretty soon, only the rich will be able to drive vehicles because people like me can’t afford to keep a car on the road. Furthermore, what are they doing with the extra billions of dollars they are making from the H.S.T.? Obviously lining their own pockets. Our roads are full of potholes, and services are getting cut back. People in B.C. remind me of a dog that gets kicked and then rolls over to get kicked on the other side. We need a revolution in this province enough is enough!!!

  7. Keith Simpson says:

What’s this? Another tax being put on gas for the evergreen line?! When are people in B.C. going to stand up and do something about this insanity?!!! I am sick to death of this corrupt dictatorship!!!!
